Microneedling Treatments Honolulu

Microneedling helps the skin generate collagen in order to reduce the appearance
of wrinkles and scars to make you look young again!

Remove Wrinkles & Acne Scars

Microneedling can reduce both in as little as three to five sessions with no downtime.

You might be the right candidate for microneedling if you don’t qualify for fractional light-based therapy due to your skin type, such as dark skin.  It is also less invasive procedure than most lasers.  Most patients barely even feel the needles!  Here is what you need to know about microneedling and how it can improve your skin’s appearance.

Microneedling

Microneedling is a procedure that helps the skin generate collagen in order to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and scars.  With an automated dermapen, small needles gently poke the skin.  We apply medical grade serums during and after the treatment to maximize penetration.  We have serums for wrinkles and serums for hyperpigmentation.  Our office uses numbing cream to reduce any pain that you may feel.  This is applied about 20 minutes before your treatment.  The procedure takes about 15 minutes to perform.  You will see smoother, toner, and firmer skin within two to three treatments.  We recommend microneedling for those who want to reduce the appearance of scars, large pores, and wrinkles on the face.

The procedure is similar to fractional light-based therapy because it helps your skin generate new collagen to improve its appearance.  One treatment lasts roughly one hour with prep time included.  After two to three sessions, our clients see improvements in fine lines around the upper and lower lips and eyes.   They also notice improvements in their acne scars.  The best part about microneedling is that it is safe for most skin types.

Common Areas of Microneedling Treatments

Here are some of the conditions that you can use microneedling to treat:

How it works

Microneedling slightly injures the skin, which in turn stimulates the skin to produce more collagen, a protein responsible to keep the skin elastic, smooth and firm.  Collagen naturally declines with age.  This is why so many people develop wrinkles and loose skin as they get older.   Microneedling can help your skin stimulate more collagen to help it look young again.

After your procedure, you won’t need to do anything at all!  However, for the first 24 hours after the treatment, your skin will look as if it had been sunburned, so you should avoid the sun for a day.  You may feel some discomfort in the area that was treated, but this should go away quickly.  We recommend coming back for three to five session to get the maximum benefit from the treatment.  Most patients find that this treatment works much better than the roller you can use at home.  We also can penetrate deeper than the rollers to get better results.

FAQ

Common Questions Answered.

What is the average age of someone who gets a microneedling treatment?

Microneedling can help anyone of any age.  Keep in mind that collagen naturally declines with age.   This type of treatment is beneficial for anyone who has damage from the sun (which can occur even in your 20’s) or someone who is older and notices that their skin is not as firm as it used to be!

Can men benefit from this treatment too?

Yes!  Men are not immune to skin problems, and with aging, collagen naturally declines in men too.  Plus, most men do not protect their skin, as well as women, do when outdoors.  In fact, with microneedling, our office treats about 50% men and 50% women.

Is microneedling safe for dark skin?

Yes, microneedling is safe for most skin types.  This is one of the reasons why microneedling is preferred over fractional light therapy, which is more difficult and risky to do on patients with dark skin in sunny Hawaii.

Why do most people seek microneedling treatment?

We see people from all walks of life in our office to improve their skin’s appearance.  The procedure uses your skin’s own collagen production to help reduce acne scars that are caused by picking at the acne.  It can also help generate smoother, firmer skin and minimize pore appearance.

What are the risks or side effects of microneedling?

Most people find that microneedling is well tolerated.  You may notice redness or irritation of the skin that was treated.  However, any redness or irritation should go away quickly.  We recommend that you do not itch, scratch, or attempt to peel this area because it may increase your risk of infection or scarring.  You can ice your skin after the treatment if it appears to be irritated.  Remember that you want your skin to regenerate its collagen production, and this is only done when the skin is injured and needs to heal itself.

Who would not benefit from microneedling?

Microneedling is safe for almost everyone, but you might not be a good candidate if you are pregnant or have a history of severe skin sensitivity.  If you scar easily, have open wounds, or have had radiation therapy recently, then you may not be a good candidate for microneedling.  Skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis may become irritated after treatment.  You should not have this treatment if you have active acne, because this will spread the infection.  Patients who tend to form keloid scars should not have this treatment.
