Slim those hard to reach fat areas!
Aging is a fact of life, but looking your age doesn’t have to be…
If only our genes would follow our dreams! We may have put in the order for gorgeous wrinkle-free luminous skin, but that doesn’t always happen. Occasionally, we inherit qualities that make us look older or overweight. If you’re self-conscious about the fat under your chin, then Kybella will help. We fondly call this procedure the “F-shot” because it destroys fat. It’s an injection that helps reduce your “double chin” to make you look and feel years younger!
The bummer about double chins is that they don’t seem to go away even if you eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly. The F-shot is made with a normally occurring molecule that your body already makes, so it’s completely natural! The F-shot eliminates double chin fat to help give you a slimmer appearance. Here is what you need to know about the F-shot and how it can help you!
F-Shot / Kybella Treatment
Kybella contains a naturally occurring compound in the body called deoxycholic acid, which helps break down fat by destroying the fat cell membrane. The FDA approved Kybella injections in 2015, so it’s a safe procedure! Currently, Kybella is the only FDA-approved injection to treat double chins.
Research shows that the fat underneath your chin may be inherited genetically. It’s a stubborn type of fat that doesn’t seem to go away no matter how much you diet or exercise. Kybella is placed into the fat below your neck to help destroy these fat cells and reduce the appearance of your double chin.
The F-shot can also be done in other areas of the body to reduce fat cells, including bra fat, love handles, knee fat, thighs, arms, and jowls. Many people like the F-shot/Kybella because it is better tolerated than having a lower facelift surgery. Plus, it uses a completely natural compound in its synthetic form so that it’s easier to absorb in the body. It’s also a great alternative to liposuction and Coolsculpting for areas that contain stubborn fat. Liposuction and Coolsculpting could lead to the unevenness of the area and loose skin.
How it works
When you schedule a F-Shot injection, Dr. Mai will inject Kybella into your problematic area. Deoxycholic acid, the active ingredient in the injection, breaks down the membranes of the fat cells. Your body absorbs the dead fat cells. Since you do not make any new fat cells, these cells are gone, so the results are long-lasting as long as you do not gain excessive weight.
What to expect during the F-shot/Kybella Treatment
Before getting started, we will clean the area. We will mark the area where we want to treat. The area will be iced, and Dr. Mai will inject under the skin to ensure that the area is well treated. The injected solution will gradually work over the next few weeks. There will be some discomfort from the medication for a few minutes. Then there will be swelling for 4-7 days that may be noticeable, but after a week the swelling will be there but not noticeable by other people. The number of injections and sessions may vary based on your response rate. However, we recommend waiting at least 6 weeks to 2 months in between treatment sessions to allow the injection to completely work. Subsequent F-shot or Kybella treatments will have less pain and swelling. Kybella will also help tighten the skin.
