5 ways to boost health & immunity at home – doing things you’ll love & all backed by science.

Don’t let being stuck at home affect your health and immunity. Here are 5 fun ways you can boost your immunity during COVID-19 home lockdown.

By now we are all aware of CDC’s safe practices to protect yourself from COVID-19 and I hope they’ve become daily habits for you. However, the media hasn’t talked as much as it should about how important it is to stay healthy and happy while stuck at home.

The good news is that 80% of patients who tested positive for COVID-19 only suffer mild symptoms, then recover quickly and 13% of them did not show any symptoms at all. Almost 14% of patients were classed as severe cases and about 5% were determined to be critical. (4)

Your health is more important than ever, and I wanted to provide you with some interesting and fun ways you can improve your health and immunity at home.

We all need to have a positive attitude starting with doing things that make you happy. Studies show that people with positive wellbeing are more likely to eat healthier, sleep better, have a more active lifestyle, and are three times less likely to develop the common cold. (1) (2) (3)

The bottom line is happier people have better immune systems and if you work on this first then accomplishing a healthy lifestyle becomes easier. So spend time on doing things at home you love and bellow you find 5 interesting proven ways to increase your immunity and happiness.

Here are 5 scientifically proven ways to increase happiness & immunity:

#1 – LOL (Laugh out Loud) ????

Don’t lose your sense of humor, laughing is good for you!

Laughter boosts the body’s production of white blood cells that fight infections and regulate stress hormones to help boost your immunity. Studies even show that faking laughter or just thinking about something funny can have a positive effect. (6)

So don’t hold back on binge-watching a good comedy show or movie with your family and if you have any old dusty board games in your closet this is a good time to pull them out.

• Watch a good comedy
• Watch funny videos on YouTube
• Play Fun games at home
• Play fun games online with friends

#2 – Get Lots of Sleep ????

A good night’s rest is key to healthy immunity.

I know we all love the sound of relaxing and getting more sleep. Most of us are staying and working from home and with the extra time we save not traveling for work or getting ready is a great opportunity to get as much sleep as you can.

There are many studies on how sleep helps boost your immune system by improving immune cells known as “T cells.” When your body detects a virally infected cell, they activate a type of protein called integrins that attack the infected cells and kills them. (7)

Your T cells get a boost in levels of integrin while you’re sleeping, so try and get a good night’s rest or even a mid-day nap if possible.

#3 – Isolate yourself but don’t be Isolated ????‍♀‍????‍♂‍

Believe it or not, too much isolation can harm your immunity.

Having relationships and a good social network is great for you. Studies show that people who are connected to a few close friends or family have stronger immunity. So, don’t hold back making meaningful online connections and it’s always a good idea anyway. (8)

Add some fun and try to get creative! Like throwing an online video party or setting up a time to have an online happy hour with your friends. Wine not? ????????

#5 – Moderate Exercise from home ????

Science proves that a moderate daily workout strengthens your immunity. If you have kids get them involved it can be fun.

Yeah… yeah… yeah… We all know exercising is an important part of our health and it’s never easy to find the time, but hear me out. You don’t want to workout hard and with just 20-30 minutes of walking a day or even every other day, helps your immune system fight infections. Now that most of us are stuck at home it’s more important than ever to stretch your legs a little and it’s important not to overdo it.

For those of you who already exercise daily, you don’t want to exercise more just to increase your immunity. Heavy, long-term exercise like marathon running and intense gym training can actually cause harm. So keep it moderate, and if you’re using home gym equipment make sure to sanitize after use.

With a little exercise, your body circulates antibodies more rapidly to detect and fight off illnesses earlier, increases body temperature during and after to fight bacteria growth, lowers stress hormones for better protection against illness, and overall makes you feel better and happier. (9)
